Hospitals are never fun...

Hey guys, I wanted to let you all know what happened to me the other day.
I'm sure some of you remember that I was having pain in the front of my hips for about 2 days. I was limping and in so much pain it was difficult to walk. This would increase drastically each night to the point where I was unable to sleep because the pain was becoming so intense.

I thought that I had just pulled a muscle or did something to my hip joints. I let it slide for a couple days and sucked it up. The second night became dramatically worse and I was completely unable to sleep again. Crying in pain the next morning I decided to take a trip to the Emergency Room.

The doctors were shocked at what they found because although I was in excruciating pain, and in a wheel chair, the X-rays did not reveal anything significant, and my blood and urine panels revealed that I had an elevated white blood cell count, about 13,000. Problem was that no one knew where it was coming from.

They then transfered me to the actual hospital and admitted me. I underwent even more blood work and tests that revealed nothing more than the white blood cells.

My doctor did mention a rare case where an infection from a previous illness stays in the body and spreads into the joints. He was skeptical that was what I had because it is extremely rare in young healthy people and is usually found in elderly people, babies, diabetics and so on..... I was given an IV drip of some IB Profen cousin, stronger however to see if it helped with pain. A few hours went by and I was re-visited by my doctor who asked if the IB was helping. It did. It had taken about 50% of the pain away but I was still unable to walk or lift my legs. He then ordered an MRI and found massive amounts of fluid in my hips. Our biggest fear was right, I was SEPTIC, Which means I had SEPSIS, also known as SEPTIC SHOCK.

Septic shock is a life-threatening reaction to a severe infection.
During septic shock, the body tissues and organs do not get enough
blood and oxygen.

Causes
The problem may start with a small infection that overwhelms the
body's defenses and spreads. In some severe infections, the germs make
harmful toxins that can cause fluid to leak from blood vessels out
into the tissues. The toxins may also prevent the heart from beating
strongly enough. Together, these reactions lower blood pressure. If
blood pressure gets too low, the body and its organs become deprived
of oxygen. The body tries to help itself, but without enough oxygen,
it makes too much of certain waste products. These extra wastes can do
additional harm.

Care
Septic shock is an emergency that requires treatment in the hospital.
While there, you will get medicine to treat your infection, plus IV
fluids, oxygen, and possibly medicine to raise the blood pressure.

Risks
Without treatment, septic shock is usually a killer. The sooner you
receive treatment, the better your chances of recovery.

Thank gosh I caught it on day 2!

So they had me in the operating room within 2hours of the MRI. I was terrified. they had to go into my hips with a giant needle and extract all the fluid and determine if it was bacterial or not.

They pulled 6mils of fluid out of my right hip with two injection sites deep into my hips and 1 mil from the left hip.

Good news is it wasn't bacterial, but they are still running tests to determine exactly what it was. I have been on an IV drip of Morphine and Dilaudid as well as fluids and anti inflamitories and antibiotics.

I was released last night and am now home recovering.

I probably won't see you guys for a couple of days but I wanted to let you in on what happened.

Stay healthy guys, it was no fun!

xoxo

Jess

Thank you Matty, I believed

Thank you Matty, I believed that I should put this out there because everyone has been so sick this year and I would have never expected the Strep throat I had two weeks ago would turn into this. So in case anyone else ever has the same symptoms... beware and take care of yourself!

Love,

Jess
